This is Falfurrias, Texas

Falfurrias is the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres.

The city is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and State Highway 285 and is approximately 81 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90 miles southeast of Laredo, and 36 miles south of Alice. Population was 6,200 as of 2010.

TO THE PUBLIC – GREETINGS
 
Notice is hereby given that a Regular Meeting, of the City Council, of the City of Falfurrias will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the 19th of June, 2013, in the Conference Room in the Police Department Building located at 205 E. Allen Street in the City of Falfurrias, in Brooks County.
 
If during the course of this Council Meeting, the City Council should determine that a closed meeting or executive session of the Council is required, such closed meeting or executive session will be conducted during or soon after the commencement of the meeting covered by this notice. This closed meeting or executive session will follow the guidelines and subject matter as set forth under Chapter 551 of Texas Government Code and an amendments thereto.
 
At such Regular Meeting, the following subjects will be considered by the City Council of the City of Falfurrias, Texas
 
  1. CALL TO ORDER
  2. ROLL CALL
  3. CITIZEN COMMENTS:  This is the opportunity for visitors and guests to address the City Council on any issue. City Council may not discuss any presented issue, nor may any action be taken on any issue at this time. (Attorney General Opinion – JC 0169)
  4. Approval of monthly bills.  
             
OLD BUSINESS
 
EXECUTIVE SESSION –  The council may enter into closed or executive session to discuss the following Texas Government Code Section 551.074 –Personnel Matter;
 
(1) To deliberate the appointment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline; or dismissal of a public officer or employee;
 
(a) To deliberate the appointment of Melinda Garza as City Clerk, set salary, and effective date of appointment for the City of Falfurrias.
To deliberate the appointment of Noel Bernal as City Administrator, set salary, and effective date of appointment for the City of Falfurrias.

  • Discussion and possible action on May financials for General Fund and Special Revenue Funds.
  • Discussion on Interlocal Agreement between City of Falfurrias and Brooks County for joint City/County EMS services, and possible improvements, maintenance and repairs within City of Falfurrias City limits.  
  • Discussion and possible action on approval for assisting Halo Flight with $1,000.00 for fiscal year 2014 budget. 
  • Discussion and possible action on budget amendment for payment and reimbursement to Falfurrias Golfer’s Inc. for golf course repairs and equipment replacement in the amount of $4,624.92. 
  • Discussion and possible action on Resolution #403, a Resolution regarding a financing agreement for the purpose of procuring “Police Vehicles and Related Equipment” between the City of Falfurrias and Government Capital Corporation.

  • Discussion and possible action on amending Interlocal Cooperation Agreement for School Resource Officer between the City of Falfurrias and Brooks County Independent School District to include police services for summer school security. 
  • Discussion and possible action on Resolution #404, a Resolution authorizing a moratorium on the issuance of permits for the operation of businesses designed to operate game and amusement devices,’ eight-liners’ and/or similar types of gaming devices.
  • Discussion and possible action on present and future operations of the Falfurrias Utility Board including, but not limited to, ordinances allowing for such authority to manage day-to-day operations, budget issues, selection of Board Members; and consideration of refinancing existing bonds related to utility system.  
  • Discussion and possible action to approve a $4,000 offer by Israel Cavazos to purchase tax sale property on Lot 69, original townsite of Falfurrias, as described in deed dated December 12, 1987 recorded in Volume 120, Page 727, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging from Frances Holden to Evelyn Holden by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a resolution.
  • Discussion and possible action to approve a $1,100 offer by Savannah Garcia to purchase tax sale property on Lot 2, Block E, Maupin Addition as described in Volume 26, Page 440, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Andrea Gonzalez Garza by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a resolution.
  • Discussion and possible action to approve a $1,325.00 offer by Edward Cortez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 5, Block 20, Dashiell Addition as described in Volume 127, Page 57, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Roselyn Meyers by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a resolution.
  • Discussion and possible action to approve a $1,400 offer by Tomas R. Johnson to purchase tax sale property on Lot 4, Block 1, Barrera Addition No. 2 as described in Volume 26, Page 548, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Manuel Basaldua by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a resolution.
  • Discussion and possible action to approve a $4,500 offer by Maria D. Gonzalez to purchase tax sale property on Lot 14, Block N, Maupin Addition as described in Volume 62, Page 449, Deed Records of Brooks County, Texas belonging to Dominga Garza by Linebarger, Goggan, Blair & Sampson delinquent attorneys and approve a resolution.
